The Holler Sessions comes to Ancram Opera House just prior to a run at the renowned Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.

Staged as a live radio show, The Holler Sessions centers around one man’s burning obsession for American jazz. Ray, an explosive Kansas City DJ, broadcasts his love of jazz from his shoddy studio with an infectious passion for this uniquely American art form. Ray’s maniacal rants, razor-sharp insights, and mildly scatological humor are interspersed with truly gorgeous music and lots of space for listening. The Holler Sessions serves as a jazz primer for the uninitiated, a powerful reminder for jazz fans and an irreverent love letter to the best thing America has ever created – and forgotten.

"An intense and invigorating crash course in music appreciation."  Ben Brantley, The New York Times

written and performed by Frank Boyd

created in collaboration with the TEAM, an internationally acclaimed Brooklyn-based ensemble under the direction of Rachel Chavkin, currently represented on Broadway with the Tony Award nominated Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812.

"Frank Boyd's one-man theatre piece is a vital exhortation on the significance of jazz the likes of which no journal essay or web rant can achieve. It should be required viewing for all musicians, music lovers, pop-culture fiends, artists, art fans and American people over the age of 7."    Johnathan Zwickel, CityArts (Seattle)

"Watching The Holler Sessions is a euphoric and heartrending experience. I’ve always been somewhat cautiously intimidated by jazz—I didn’t grow up on it and I don’t know much about it. Jazz makes me feel good, but I never developed a singular, aching devotion to it. Twenty minutes into The Holler Sessions, I was altogether convinced of its utter necessity for my continued survival."  Katy Einerson, Culturebot
